The FMS

The FMS — Flow Management System — is the thinking half of Energy Autopilot. It works in the logical realm: inside the FMS, your home exists as a model — your solar array, your battery, your EV, your big loads — each an asset whose energy flows can be planned, shaped and coordinated.

What it watches

The FMS continuously takes in everything that should influence how your home runs: your electricity prices (including real-time wholesale prices if you’re on a dynamic plan), your solar production forecast, your battery’s state, your EV’s charging needs, and the rhythms of how your household actually uses energy.

Works with your choice of retailer

Energy Autopilot works with dynamic-price retailers like Amber, where wholesale prices flow through to you and the FMS can plan around every price movement of the day. It works just as happily with conventional time-of-use retailers, optimising around your fixed peak, shoulder and off-peak windows.

Choose the retailer that best suits your needs — and your preferred risk/reward trade-off when it comes to buying and selling energy. Whichever pricing world you pick, the FMS optimises within it.

What it does

From all of that, the FMS works out the best plan for the flows of energy through your day: when to charge the battery, when to hold, when to run the big loads, when to sell to the grid, when the car should draw and — as vehicle-to-grid arrives — when it should give back. The system architecture holistically integrates control of all energy resources at once, which is exactly what separate point solutions can’t do.

Plans aren’t set-and-forget. The FMS re-plans continuously as conditions change: a cloudy afternoon, a price spike, an earlier-than-usual commute — all folded in as it changes.

Your window into the system

The FMS’s web interface is where you meet the platform: onboarding your devices, seeing today’s plan, reading the digest, adjusting your preferences. When a Servo starts up in your home, it phones home to the FMS — and from that moment, everything is managed from one place.
